Geneva was cold, a city of steel and glass reflected in the dark waters of the lake. Elara arrived at the private dock of Vanderbilt’s estate, her cello case slung over her shoulder like a weapon. Thanks to Elias, she knew exactly where the meeting was taking place.
Inside the glass-walled boathouse, Julian stood alone. Vanderbilt was there, surrounded by three armed guards. The original ledger lay on the table between them.
"You look tired, Julian," Vanderbilt smiled, his eyes glinting with triumph. "Love makes a man weak. It made your father weak, and now it’s finished you."
"The money is gone, Arthur," Julian said, his voice steady despite the gun pointed at his chest. "The moment you opened that book, the transfer triggered. The 'Black Fund' is being emptied into a dozen charitable trusts in the names of the families your 'developments' destroyed. Starting with the Vance estate."
Vanderbilt’s smile vanished. "Kill him," he barked at his guards.
CRACK.
The sound of the shot didn't come from a guard. It came from the entrance. Elara stood there, not with a gun, but with her phone held high, the "Go Live" light blinking red to a million followers.
"The world is watching, Arthur," she said, her voice echoing with a strength she didn't know she possessed. "Every word, every face, every threat. If Julian dies, the whole world sees the murder in 4K."
Julian looked at her, a mixture of horror and awe in his eyes. He had tried to save her by leaving her behind, but she had saved him by stepping into the fire.
